Rogers at Austin, Travis County, Texas.3 He was employed as a printer on 8 August 1860 at Austin, Travis County, Texas.3 He began military service on 1 December 1861 at Texas.6 He began military service on 22 March 1862 at Austin, Travis County, Texas, with his enlistment as a private in Company G, 16th Regiment (Flournoy's), Texas Infantry, Army of the Confederate States of America.7 On 1 April 1862, John W. Peery was listed on the Company Roll as a Private, (age 23) Capt. Fred W. Moore's Company, Flournoy's Regiment, Texas Infantry, C.S.A.7 Between May 1862 and June 1862, John W. Peery was listed on the Company Roll as a Private in Company G, 16th Regiment, Texas Infantry, C.S.A. and was marked absent, being detached as a nurse at a hospital at Monroe, Ouachita Parish, Louisiana.7 From 27 March 1864 to April 1865, John W. Peery was listed on the Company Roll as a Private, Company G, 16 Regiment, Texas Infantry, C.S.A., attached by Special Order No. 130, Dept HQ, as a nurse at Mount Lebanon, Bienville Parish, Louisiana.7 He and Penelope Ann Hayes, daughter of Isaac Simpson Hayes and Judea Varner, were married by John Brice, Justice of the Peace on 14 July 1864 at Bienville Parish, Louisiana.8,9,1,10 He and his wife Conalebe Peery appeared on the census of 30 June 1870 at Upper Township, Fort Smith, Sebastian County, Arkansas.10 He was employed as a farmer on 30 June 1870 at Upper Township, Fort Smith, Sebastian County, Arkansas.10 He died on 16 February 1878 at McLennan County, Texas, at age 39 years, 7 months and 19 days.1,2 He may have died in 1878 at Crawford County, Arkansas.
