James Gautney Collier

     James Gautney Collier was born on 24 February 1812 at Twiggs County, Georgia.^1,2,3 He was the son of Benjamin Columbus Collier II and Margaret Peggy Lane. He married Elizabeth Ann Stewart, daughter of John Stewart and Lucretia Wynn, on 27 September 1832.⁴ He became a widower upon the death of his wife, Elizabeth Ann Collier, on 2 April 1843 at Blakely, Early County, Georgia.^5,4 He married Elizabeth Wynn Stewart, daughter of John Stewart and Lucretia Wynn, on 4 June 1843 at Early County, Georgia. He and his wife Elizabeth Wynn Stewart appeared on the census of 9 August 1850 at Early County, Georgia.⁶ He was employed as a farmer on 9 August 1850 at Early County, Georgia.⁶ He was appointed Guardian of the children of Delaware Freeman, James G., Volumnia, Thomas F., Eli, and Henry C. Freeman on 13 January 1851 at Early County, Georgia. In circa 1853,James Gautney Collier and Elizabeth Wynn Stewart moved his family to Texas.¹ He and his wife Elizabeth Wynn Stewart appeared on the census of 12 July 1860 at Woodville, Tyler County, Texas.¹ He was employed as a farmer on 12 July 1860 at Woodville, Tyler County, Texas.¹ He and his wife Elizabeth Wynn Stewart appeared on the census of 15 June 1880 at Tyler County, Texas.⁷ He was employed as a farmer on 15 June 1880 at Tyler County, Texas.⁷ He died on 23 October 1896 at Beech Creek Community, Tyler County, Texas, at age 84 years, 7 months and 29 days.^2,3 He was buried at Beech Creek Baptist Cemetery, CR 4540, Spurger, Tyler County, Texas.^2,3
